Countering Disinformation through Reliable Government Information | Panel Discussion on Right to Information (RTI) 📢
The Department of Media and Communication Studies at the University of Sialkot organized an insightful panel discussion in collaboration with Sudhaar Society, Sialkot on the important theme “Countering Disinformation through Reliable Government Information.”.
The session focused on the role of the Right to Information (RTI) in promoting transparency, strengthening democracy, and combating the spread of misinformation in society. Mr. Mohsin Randhawa, Program Manager at Sudhaar Society, moderated the discussion and shared valuable insights on how citizens and media professionals can access authentic government information to verify facts and build public trust.
Faculty members from the Department of Media and Communication Studies actively participated in the panel discussion, highlighting the growing challenges of disinformation and the responsibility of journalists and media students in ensuring credible information dissemination.
The session also included an engaging Q&A interaction with students, where participants discussed practical ways to use RTI laws, fact-checking practices, and responsible journalism to counter false narratives in the digital age.
The Worthy Vice Chancellor Prof. (Meritorious) Dr. Muhammad Khaleeq Ur Rahman, appreciated the efforts of the Department of Media and Communication Studies for organizing a meaningful academic activity.
As a token of appreciation, a shield was presented to Mr. Mohsin Randhawa by the department in recognition of his valuable contribution as the moderator of the session.
